Behcet's Disease

Criteria for diagnosis

  • Recurrent mouth sores (aphthus oral ulcers), and
  • Any two of:
    • Recurring genital ulcers
    • Uveitis
    • Skin lesions (erythema nodosum, pseudofolliculitis, papulopustular lesions, acneiform nodules or even ulcers such as pyoderma gangrenosum)
    • Positive pathergy or skin prick test

Pearl:  Behçet's disease is common in the Middle East, Asia, and Japan. It is rare in the United States.But remember that it can affect any race. Age is 20-30.
